Welcome to my Being Gram (aka Diane Karchner) blog where I explore – seriously and not so seriously – three things that have been on my mind for nearly a decade…
becoming a grandmother (check out the fun stuff in Gram Crackers to do, share and be with your Grands!)
retiring from a corporate career and all that is wrapped up in that (check out Tell-A-Gram where I get into the serious stuff of post-job living), and
being the real me, even over 60! (in Gram Central, we’ll explore all that is means to expand on our own wonderful, or even uncover what’s been missing!)
I know you are all feeling my cleverness in using my name, Gram, in all 3 categories. Yes, I thought of it all on my own.
So…let me share a few personals…
I am a mom of 2, a Gram to 4, and a wife of 1 for the past 45 years. Add to that, I am also a mother-in-law, a daughter, an aunt, a sister, and a friend.
I live now, and have pretty much always lived, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA in the good ole US of A.
I am a Christian, and every day I work on letting that shine through. Some days, sadly, you may have to squint to see the flicker of flame!
I claim to be a perennial gardener although some days my garden does not reflect that passion, but I am still able to grin at even the slightest budding!
And I am always writing something – books (so far, three of them!), blogs, poems, journals. Words seem to clear my eyeballs and to make sense of this crazee world.
A few years ago I escaped the hairball of corporate citizenship to race after my retirement dreamscape: gardening obsessively, writing constantly and traveling with my man. Thankfully, I have done some of each.
But then, as life has a way of doing, change happened…grandkids. And as some of you already know, there ain’t nothing like sitting with a little grand on your lap to make you lose track of all time!
But truth be told, this new role of Being Gram had me a bit verklempt at times. And beyond Gram-hood, I felt the shaky balance that comes with this tangled life season of sometimes-scary, mostly-exciting change.
Retirement. Aging. Gram-hood. It’s a lot to handle.
So I write to un-phlegm;
to share the wins, the learnings and the honest-to-gosh fun;
to enter into chats with y’all that will lift us all up;
and, to make connections with places and things and ideas that will make this Grand Adventure even more fun for all of us, and for this new, wonder-filled generation!
Welcome! I cannot wait to connect with all of you!
