According to a 1978 Proclamation, signed into law by President Carter, National Grandparents Day is for these purposes: “…to honor grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer”. It seems like a win-win for everyone, right?
Grandparents Day is not, as many believe, a creation of Hallmark to sell yet more greeting cards! It is actually an official, national holiday, instituted by Congress designated for the 1st Sunday after Labor Day each year.
